Review of The Family of Jesus

Heart of the Story by Karen Kingsbury
This is a different viewpoint on the story of Jesus. The well-known author takes people from Jesus life and has you look at His life through their eyes. I gave this book 4/5 stars. It wasn’t the best book I have read but it did have some interesting viewpoints. I liked how the stories flowed; there were no boring parts! I liked that most of what was written you could find in the Bible. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a different viewpoint on the life of Jesus.

Review of The Brickmaker's Bride

The Brickmaker's Bride (Refined by Love, #1)
This book is very family oriented. I liked how the relationships and day to day struggles were portrayed. I gave this book 5/5 stars. This story will grab you right away and take you into the lives of the intriguing characters. The female character is written as being strong yet having venerability, which makes her believable! The male characters are both interesting and but only one is likable. You will pull for one but realize that you wouldn’t like him so much if the other wasn’t written as an unlikable character. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes family dramas and romances that progress slowly.

Review of Alaska Sweethearts

Alaskan Sweethearts

I liked how this book started with the man’s point of view. A lot of times you start right out with the main female character in some kind of distress. This book has the story start with the main male character driving to a meeting he needs to get to right away. I liked how the story progressed and how the two characters came to know and like each other despite their initial distrust of one another. I thought the story moved quickly and was interesting. I gave this book 5/5 stars. I would recommend it to those who like a quick modern romance with a Christian theme.

Review of Beautiful In God's Eyes For Young Women

Beautiful in God's Eyes for Young Women by Elizabeth George

This is the perfect book for your tween or teen girl.  I thought the advice was excellent and just what a girl becoming a woman needs to read.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  The book is written in a friendly manner and offers practical information that is easy to understand.  I am a huge fan of this author and was very excited to read this new book for the young woman.  You cannot go wrong buying this book for any young Christian girl you know.  I highly recommend this book!

Review of Devotional You Are Loved!

You Are Loved by Darlene Sala
This is an excellent devotional book.  It is encouraging and points you to the Lord with each entry.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I liked that there were examples from scripture and real life examples to help highlight the verse for the day.  The devotionals are short but are full of practical advice for your day.  I would recommend this to any woman who is looking for a new devotional book.

Review of The Invention of Sarah Cummings

The Invention of Sarah Cummings by Olivia Newport
The setting is the best part of this historical book.  The time period is described beautifully.  The clothes of the time are easy to picture with the authors flowing descriptions.  I gave this book 4/5 stars.  Where the descriptions were great the main female character was just not written as a very likable person.  I did not enjoy her and her interactions with those around her.  I did get how the author was trying to show how she changes over the pages but it was hard to like her.  I would recommend this book to someone who is interested in the time period and setting more than the characters.

Review of Sweet Olive

Sweet Olive by Judy Christie
I just didn’t really enjoy this book and gave it a 4/5 stars.  The story itself was slow to start and I actually got confused at the beginning.  The characters were written to be these deep thinkers but I found them to be boring and was not entertained.  I did enjoy the town setting and thought the author was excellent at describing things and locations.  I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick Christian fiction book that will entertain you for an evening.

Live Right Now by Sabrina Black
This is a very practical book.  The author talks in simple terms with no condescending language.  I liked that her information was helpful and could easily be implemented into any woman’s life.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I thought the book was an encouraging read and well worth your time.  I would recommend the book to any woman who is looking for some guidance in her life on realistic issues.  Overall this was an excellent book!

Review of Fired Up

 Fired Up by Mary Connealy

This book has suspense and romance!  I gave this book 4/5 stars.  I liked the suspense parts and felt they were well written and did not drag on and on.  The main female character was interesting but did not have a personality that drew me to cheer for her!  The male lead was one of the best I have read lately.  He was smart, logical and easy to like.  I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys suspenseful stories that include an entertaining male lead.

Review of A Boy's Guide To Making Realy Good Choices

A Boy's Guide to Making Really Good Choices by Jim George

This is an excellent resource for a young boy.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I think it would be great to use as a devotional with a 6-10 year old.  Having a parent read it with him would be even better.  There is simple advice following some scenarios that will have the young boy thinking about his options.  I liked that it was easy to read and also was entertaining enough to keep his interest.  I would recommend this book to any parent of a young Christian boy who needs some simple guidance in his life.

Review of Beloved By Robin Lee Hatcher

Beloved by Robin Lee Hatcher

This book is part of a series by famed author Robin Lee Hatcher.  I would recommend that you read the others in the series before reading this one.  You don’t have to but I think it will help you better understand the characters.  The story itself is entertaining but not one of my favorites by this author.  I thought the characters were not very well developed.  They just did not draw you to them and that made it hard to want to keep reading about them.  I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the author.

Review of A Talent For Trouble

A Talent for Trouble by Jen Turano
This book is part of a series.  You do not have to read the others but I would recommend it as they are all similar.  The characters are enjoyable!  I liked how the conversations were written, they flowed well and all made sense!  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  The setting is so well written!  I loved how the descriptions were so simple yet you really could see the buildings and outdoors.  I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical Christian fiction and those who enjoy series by the same authors.

Review of A December Bride

A December Bride by Denise Hunter

This is short but worth the read!  I liked how easy this book flowed from one chapter to the next.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  For it being a smaller book the characters were well written and easy to like.  I thought the conversations were very natural.  The story line is familiar, a man and woman pretend to be married, but this author puts some new twists to it and made it a very fun story.  I would recommend this book to anyone who likes short yet entertaining Christian fiction stories!

Review of The Passion Principles

The Passion Principles by Shannon Ethridge

This is a must read for all married couples!  Don’t let the subject matter scare you away.  This book is well written, easy to follow, informative and has a Christian point of view.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I liked how the book was laid out, very organized.  I also liked that the author made the subject matter factual yet with a loving attitude.  I would recommend this book for all couples, maybe a Sunday School class or even a Bible study book to read through.

The Smart Woman's Guide to Planning for Retirement by Mary Hunt
Just Get This Book!!  There is so much information in the pages and yet you will not get bored.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I liked the idea of the book and thought the author did an excellent job of showing the steps to take to be comfortable when you retire.  This is not a boring or monotonous book!  I found the author’s writing style to be entertaining and informative.  I would recommend this book to all women, no matter the age!

Power Thoughts Devotional by Joyce Meyer

This is a great devotional!  Very easy to read and well put together.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I liked that the devotionals were thought provoking yet easy to read.  They all point you to the Lord and how He says to handle situations and people in your life.  I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys the author as a speaker or writer.  I would also recommend it to anyone who is looking for a new devotional to start.

Review of Childrens Book Cupcake Cousins

Cupcake Cousins by Kate Hannigan

This book was written for the upper elementary crowd.  I think it can still be enjoyed by a first grader but would say it is more for the 3rd or 4th grade crowd.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I thought the story was entertaining and would keep any child interested.  I liked that the characters learned a few lessons in the story but the lessons weren’t so in your face that you couldn’t just enjoy the story for being a story.  I liked the simple conversations and would definitely recommend this book!

Review of Made To Last

Made to Last by Melissa Tagg

I really enjoyed this modern Christian love story.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  You read so many books set in different time periods so to read one set in the here and now was fun.  The characters were very real to life and could easily be people you watch every day.  I liked the interactions as the conversations were amusing and intelligent.  I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a clean Christian fiction story.  I would also recommend this to anyone who enjoys reality television.

Review of Take Charge of Your Emotions

Take Charge of Your Emotions by Linda Solie

Only read this book if you are really interested in working on how you handle your emotions.  If you are not into it this book will read like a text book and not be interesting at all.  I gave this book 4/5 stars.  I thought the idea of the book was great and really feel like the author did a great job of laying out a plan of action for the reader.  I did find parts of it to be too technical and not as practical as others.  I think the book could have been shorter and more to the point but overall it will be helpful to those needing guidance.

Review of Stepping Into Consciousness

Stepping Into Consciousness by Nicky Rolland

This is not the best self help book I have read but it does have some valid points.  I gave this book 4/5 stars.  I liked that the author was up front about her goal in writing the book and really seemed to want to help people.  At times the information felt like it was just repeating over and over.  Other times though there were some easy steps to follow and helpful advice.  I would recommend this book for someone looking to better their awareness of themselves and how they treat and are treated by others.

Review of Unforseeable

Unforeseeable by Nancy Mehl
This book was just as good a mystery as any on the top 10 sellers list!  It is book three in a series but I don’t feel like you need to read the others to enjoy the suspense in this one.  I liked that the main characters had depth to them and really thought before they spoke. The interaction of the townspeople is very well written.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I would recommend the book to anyone who enjoys Christian fiction, suspense stories, and even Amish fiction.

Review of Bride Wanted

Bride Wanted by Renee Andrews

This book reminded me of a Hallmark channel movie!  I loved it and read it in one sitting.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  The story itself is pretty typical of two people misunderstanding each other and getting wires crossed.  This of course leads to some great reading.  It also leads them to eventually find each other.  The element of the main male character being the one writing letters to his future wife was especially enjoyed.  Most of the time you get the girl doing the writing so I enjoyed that this author did a twist on that story line.  I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys quick, clean and entertaining love stories!

Review of Who You Callin' Silly?

Who You Callin' Silly? How a Silly Woman Becomes Virtuous by Kimberly R. Lock

Overall this book has some helpful tips for women who want to live their life based on Biblical principles.  I gave this book 4/5 stars.  I gave a little lower rating because at times the book was too preachy.  It was definitely written for the Christian woman but could have easily been applicable to more had some of the “in your face” religious talk been omitted from the pages.  All that said from a Christian point of view the book flows right along with the Biblical principles found in the Bible.  The author is organized in her writing and you will not be bored.  I would recommend this book for someone who is looking to jumpstart their spiritual life and needs some direction.

Review of Wrongly Accused

Wrongly Accused by Laura Scott
I loved that this book had a child as an essential part of the story!  It helped make the suspense even more exciting!  The two main characters, Caleb and Noelle, are well written and their relationship is believable.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I thought the action and suspense was fun to read and kept me turning the pages.  This is definitely a book I would read again.  I would recommend the book to anyone who likes stories with children involved or who likes a page turner that is a quick read.

Review of Wildwood Creek

Wildwood Creek by Lisa Wingate
I just love any book written by Lisa Wingate!  I gave this one a 5/5 stars.  You will not want to stop reading by the time you are done with chapter one!  There is a lot going on but it is so well written that all the subplots and main plots come to a wonderful conclusion.  I really enjoyed the main characters and thought their personalities were intriguing.  I would recommend this book to anyone who has never read a Lisa Wingate book!  I would also recommend it to anyone who enjoys a story that is not just a quick romance or mystery but a real story about captivating characters.

Review of South Carolina Brides

South Carolina Brides by Vickie McDonough
Each story was entertaining and well written.  I liked that they all had the same author as it helped the stories seem more in line with each other.  These stories are drama filled yet you will find parts to smile about too.  They were all easy to read.  Even though they were short you still get a good feel for the characters and find yourself cheering them on in their efforts to fix and get control of the situations in their lives.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I would recommend the book to anyone who likes short yet interesting Christian fiction stories.

Review of As It Was In The Days Of Noah

As It Was in the Days of Noah by Jeff Kinley
Wow what an informative and thought provoking book!  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I liked how the author related the story of Noah and his life to our day to day lives now.  This book was easy to read and follow.  Each chapter complemented the last.  I liked the tone of the book as well, not preachy but really just someone wanting to share what they had learned.  I would recommend this book to all Christians, especially those who like Biblical history and Old Testament times.

Review of A Beauty So Rare

A Beauty So Rare by Tamera Alexander

It was great to read about a character that had flaws and was not described as the most beautiful girl in the room!  I gave this book 5/5 stars as it was excellent entertainment.  The book had a lot of story lines and yet they were all tied together in such a way that you were not disappointed at the end.  I liked how the two main characters of Eleanor and Marcus did not like each other at first.  Their conversations were most entertaining!  I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the author, Tamera Alexander.  I would also recommend this book to anyone looking for a novel about a strong women character with more brains then beauty!

Review of Bodyguard Reunion

Bodyguard Reunion by Margaret Daley

What an exciting book!  This story had me from the first page and I gave it a 5/5 stars.  I have enjoyed reading some of the other books in this Guardians Inc. series.  Every book has been excellent and this one is no exception.  The two leads, T.J and Chloe had great chemistry.  When you feel the two of them are not communicating right you will find yourself wanting to talk to each of them and help them understand the other.  I enjoyed the plot also.  There is lots of excitement but even the down times in this story were entertaining.  I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a fast paced suspenseful story!

Review of 52 Ways to Grow Your Faith

52 Ways to Grow Your Faith by Gregg Farah
I will start by saying this is an easy to understand and follow book.  I thought the chapters were laid out in an orderly way and made the book easy to read.  I liked the simple ways the author presented the steps to grow your faith.  If you are having doubts or just need reassurance of what being a Christian is all about, this is a great book for you.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I would recommend this to any Christian, especially a newer one.  I think they will find the helpful tips a great way to grow in the Lord.

Review of Starting at the End

Starting at the End
I thought I would enjoy this book more than I did.  I gave this book 4/5 stars.  There was a lot of information on the pages and sometimes it was overwhelming.  I thought it had interesting information about what different people think the end will mean for the world.  I also liked the idea of the book but did not think it was very well written out.  I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a textbook type read about how the world might end.

Review of Prairie Anna

Prairie Anna
Although this is listed as a book for children I still enjoyed it!  There are some high drama moments so if your child is prone to get emotional while reading a sad story beware, this book will upset them!  I did give this book 5/5 stars because it was well written and kept my attention.  I liked how the main character was a child.  I also liked how the child had to deal with some real life issues.  It is a very well written book and worth the read!

Poison Town: A Novel (The Crittendon Files)
What a great book!  This book held my attention from the very beginning and kept me coming back!  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I liked that it took place in Ohio and was written like the incidents could really happen.  I thought the main characters were intriguing and really helped the story move from one exciting scene to the next.  I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a great Christian mystery.  I will definitely read any other book in this series!

Review of Forgiving our Fathers and Mothers

Forgiving Our Fathers and Mothers: Finding Freedom from Hurt and Hate

I would recommend this book for all adult children to read.  I thought it was well written and is very easy to understand.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I liked the author stressing that everyone is human and we all make mistakes.  Sometimes you read these kinds of books and they say forgive no matter what.  This book shows you how to look at each situation with your parents from an adult point of view.  By doing this you find true forgiveness easier when you realize they were just as human as you are right now!  I enjoyed the book and would highly recommend it.

Review of Confident in Your Calling

Be Confident In Your Calling by Nathan D. Thomas
I gave this book 5/5 stars!  I found it very encouraging and highly recommend it.  I liked the simplicity of the message.  The author, Nathan Thomas, writes with warmth and a helpful spirit.  I thought the ideas presented were excellent.  Learning that the Lord has a certain calling for each of us can be a real encouragement to a Christian going through a negative time in their life.  I found that throughout the book the author always pointed to Christ as the answer by showing that He is our guide through life.  I would recommend the book to any Christian discouraged in their current work situation or unsure of what step to take next in their walk with the Lord.

Review of Happily Ever After by Trista Sutter

The author of this book is mostly known for being on a reality television show.  This book will open your eyes to who Trista Sutter is outside of the reality show “reality.”  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  While reading this book you will feel like you are sitting at your kitchen table with coffee (or tea) cup in hand talking with a real good friend.

I found each chapter to be informative and entertaining.  The book title gives you a good idea of what the book is about, finding happiness in the mundane of life.  I liked the ideas presented and how they were presented.  One of them is looking for something to be thankful for everyday, no matter the circumstances of the day.  The author shows that by doing this you are switching your focus to positive thinking.  Another idea was to stop worrying so much about the picking up of toys as much as thinking about all the fun that was had with them.

There are so many positive things I could say about this book but it all boils down to me saying, go get the book and read it!  I would recommend this book to any mom, as I think there are some great ideas and hints for those hard to get through days.  It would also be enjoyed by any woman who likes reality television and wants to know what it is really like.  Lastly, I would recommend this book to any woman looking for help in thinking more positively throughout their day!

Review of Travels with Gannon & Wyatt Botswana

Loved this book!  I enjoyed the adventure and the characters.  I gave this book 5/5 stars!  This book is meant for the middle school age child but as an adult I thoroughly enjoyed it!  It is filled with information about the setting and animals.  I would recommend this book to any over 13 age child who enjoys adventures, animals and history.  I could not put the book down and actually read it in one sitting.

Review of Surprising Grace of Disappointment

The Surprising Grace of Disappointment - By: John Koessler
This book is a must read for every Christian.  You will find hope and encouragement throughout the book.  I happily gave this 5/5 stars!  I would recommend this book to anyone who has recently dealt with a time in their life where something did not happen the way they thought it should.  You may not agree with everything the author puts out there for you to think about but you will not be able to deny he has done his research.  I liked the style of writing and the attitude of the author is definitely friendly and non judgmental.  This is a book I would read again.

Review of Seriously Funny 2

The book is a series of letters between the two authors.  Each chapter is written by one of them and they respond to what the other has written in the previous chapter.  I gave this book 4/5 stars.  I enjoyed some of the humorous stories and liked how they inserted some basic Christian principles.  I did, however get a bit bored with it all.  I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a book that has funny stories in it.  I gave it a lower rating because I just did not enjoy all of it and felt it could have been edited down better.

Review of Razed

This is a very emotional book.  It follows the relationship of a son and father.  Although it was not a favorite read of mine I did enjoy the basic story line.  I gave this book 4/5 stars.  I thought the author did well at writing the emotions of the characters so you could really imagine how they were reacting to each other.  I did not enjoy all of the writing as I felt it was just too wordy at times.  I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading books that are not just quick reads or simple romances.  You will find the book to have deep themes and real life emotions.

Review of Gerald Lund's The Guardian

I did not enjoy most of this book!  It was just too wordy and parts of it just not make sense with the rest of the story.  I would recommend this book to someone who enjoys a mix of fantasy, fiction and adventure.  I gave this book 4/5 stars.  Although I did not enjoy it and would not read it again the story itself had some engaging characters.  I also think the author is great at describing and does well at conversational writing.  This book is really all over the place but that is just my opinion, you may enjoy it!

Review of Every Good Endeaver

Every Good Endeavor: Connecting Your Work to God's Plan for the World - By: Timothy Keller

What an excellent book!  This is a great book for any Christian who has questions about why they should go to work every day.  The book highlights are many!  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I liked how easy this was to read and how much helpful information it contained.  I thought the author’s reasons for why we should work and why we should do it for the Lord were well thought out.  I liked how he showed that working gives us purpose and we are all here for the Lords purpose so should look to him for guidance about what job we should be doing.  Knowing that the job you are doing, whether a missionary or business owner, is what the Lord has called you to do can be a real comfort and motivator.  I would recommend this book to all Christians who do not work in the ministry!

Review of Traces of Mercy

Traces of Mercy by Michael Landon Jr.
I read this book in one sitting as it held my attention from the first page!  I love books like this and enjoy giving them 5/5 stars!  I liked the setting and how it was described.  Not overly written like some historical novels are but very simple language that describes just enough without getting bogged down in the details.  The story itself was entertaining and I really enjoy it!  I thought the characters were likeable and you want them to succeed.  I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a fast paced Christian Historical Novel to read.  I highly recommend this story and author (I can’t wait to read more books by him!).

Review of The Sweet Side of Suffering

The Sweet Side of Suffering by M Esther Lovejoy
I have nothing but positive things to say about this book.  It is such an encouragement to read how another Christian has worked through suffering of some kind and come out praising the Lord.  I gave this book 5/5 stars and was happy to do so!  I would recommend this book to anyone going through a difficult day.  We all deal with different issues.  This book reminds us look to the Lord for our comfort as he knows what we are going through because he allowed it.  The author also reminds us this is our temporary home so any suffering will not last forever!  This book was a pleasure to read and I have no problem recommending it to everyone!

Review of Sinners and the Sea

The Sinners and the Sea by Rebecca Kanner

Using her imagination the author of this book tells a story about what life might have been like for Noah’s wife.  I found the writing to be well done and the characters well developed.  I thought the historical aspect of the story was well written and interesting.  I did not however really enjoy the story and therefore gave this book 4/5 stars.  Overall the book was just not to my liking as some of it seemed too fanciful.  I would recommend this book to anyone who doesn’t mind when someone writes their own thoughts on how they think a Biblical account might have happened.

Review of Praying the Prayers of the Bible

Praying the Prayers of the Bible by James Banks
This is a very helpful book with easy to read and say prayers.  I will be keeping this book handy as it covers a lot of areas with simple prayers to follow.  This book would be helpful for a new Christian as it shows Biblical examples to follow.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a fresher prayer life or someone who is looking for a book about prayers in the Bible.

Review of One Question

One Question: Life-Changing Answers from Today's Leading Voices
This book has questions broken down into small chapters. Questions are asked to known figures of our society and their answers were written here.  I gave this book5/5 stars.  I liked the format of the book and how easy it was to read!  I thought most of the questions were thought provoking and the answers held my attention.  I would recommend this book to just about anyone.  With the different topics addressed here everyone can find at least one section that interests them.  I found the whole book enjoyable and would definitely read it again!

Review of Not By Sight

Not by Sight by Kathy Herman
This was such an exciting book, it kept me guessing till the end!  I love intrigue and suspense and this book has them both!  I read the whole book in a couple days even though it is pretty hefty book.  Don’t let the size scare you away the well written story will carry you from page to page!  I liked the characters as they were written like real people, not just people to fill the pages.  This author, Kathy Herman, is one to read and you might as well start with this exciting book!
