My Big Bottom Blessing

My Big Bottom Blessing, How Hating My Body Let to Loving My Life is written by Teasi Cannon.

This would be a great book for any woman who struggles with how they look. If you look in the mirror and do not like what you see you will glean some much needed guidance from reading this book.

The author, Teasi Cannon is very open and writes with a sense of humor. Learning how to ignore or change your inner voice can be a challenge, especially when it comes to how you see yourself. I liked how the author used personal examples, I thought they really helped you see how much she understands what she is writing about. The section about putting on the armor of God is one I especially enjoyed. Her comparisons to today’s clothing were excellent.

There is also a study guide included with helpful questions to further your growth. The extra questions and scriptures made each chapter richer with information. Learning to love your body can be such a life long struggle but I think that if you read this book you will be taking a step in the right direction.

Love Like God Companion Book

Love Like God Companion Book is written by Caroline Shearer and published by Absolute Love Publishing.

This is a book that is best read after reading the book Love Like God, a compilation of work put together by Caroline Shearer. This companion book expands on the message of the previous book.

There is so much to learn about love and accepting and sharing it. I like the thoughts that the author presented. She follows these with a simple statement you can study on. One example is "I embrace absolute love." She then gives you an idea about how to express love that day.

At the end of the book there are two pages that have quotes. I enjoyed those pages as well as the little thoughts by the author. Overall this was a good book, which is why I gave it 5/5 stars, but I think it would serve better to be added into the first book not kept as a separate book.

Fruit of My Spirit

Fruit of My Spirit, Reframing Life in God’s Grace is written by Deanna Nowadnick.

This is a very personal book about the life of the author. She is extremely open in telling her story. You will relate to some of it and will have compassion for her during other parts. I liked how she describes her rebellion towards her family. I felt it was very genuine and realistic. Her stories about not enjoying camping made me laugh. I thought the placement of the pictures really made the book personal. The best part was at the end of each chapter there was a hymn written out. It was great to read those beloved songs. Overall reading the book was like sitting and having a long conversation with the author about her life. I gave the book 4/5 stars for a couple reasons. One, the type was very small and it made the reading of the book difficult at times. Second, I felt it could have been edited better, I had to reread some of the paragraphs because I did not understand what she was trying to get across the first time I read it. All of that said it is a personal story of a life that shows the redemption of Christ.

101 Thoughts of the Day is written by Lisa Collett and published by Tate Publishing.

Each of the 101 days has a one page devotional. Some of the devotions start with a verse that she expounds on and others she just discusses a subject. I found each one to be enjoyable and point me to think about something pertaining to the Lord. It was a great way to start the day.

I wish some of the devotionals had been longer and I did like some better then others. There were a few days that stood out. Day 10 she talks about how we are special to the Lord by comparing it to sand on a beach. She mentions having a place in your life where you can go and relax, really relax! She ends the book by stating how she really prayed about and thought about each devotional that is put in the book.

I enjoyed the book but wish it had been longer or at least the devotions themselves where longer and for that reason I gave this book 4/5 stars.

God’s Wisdom for Your Marriage is written by Jack Countryman and published by Thomas Nelson Publishing.

This book by is filled with scriptures quoted from the New King James Version of the Bible. Categories and sub-categories divide the scriptures that are written. Some of the main categories are God’s Plan For Your Marriage, God’s Guidance and God’s Desire. Each of the sections in the book has multiple categories. Some of the sub-categories are Praise God Together, Follow God Together, For Your Finances, For Your Family, Honesty in Marriage and Thoughtfulness in Marriage.

Each of the sections pertains to something in your marriage. Every verse is written out and easy to understand. I liked that all of these helpful references can be found in one place. This book would be a great wedding or anniversary present for a Christian couple. I also liked the place for notes. Very helpful to write out other verses or times a certain verse benefited your marriage.

I gave this book 5/5 stars because it is a wonderful gift book to have next to your bed or on your coffee table and reading through the verses will be a great benefit to your marriage.

Break Through

Break Through is written by Tim Clinton and Pat Springle.

This is a book about learning how to handle a relationship that is not good for you. Being able to protect yourself is important and the authors in this book have some great advice on ways to do that. Learning to not make excuses for those around us that are displaying irresponsible behavior is the most important principle taught in this book. Once you stop making excuses you accept their behavior and learn how to either live with it or walk away from them.

I think everyone will learn something while reading this book. Whether you need help in drawing some boundaries or just want to make sure your reactions are normal, this book has some great suggestions. I enjoyed the personal touch of the authors. You can tell the book was written to help, as the writing is not judgmental at all.

If you are having any difficulties in a relationship and are feeling like you are making excuses for the other person’s actions, you can benefit from this book. I gave this book a 4/5 stars because although most of the book had helpful information, some of it seemed repetitive.
