Review for an Accidental Bride

It was just supposed to be a reenactment but the wedding turns out to be legal and the bride is in for a change of heart. The Accidental Bride, by Denise Hunter, is a book about second chances and learning to trust both others and your self.

Shay Brandenberger lives in Moose Creek, Montana and is struggling to make all her bills. She is a single Mom and is barely making enough money from her farm to keep food on the table for her daughter. She prays for help and it comes in the form of her high school sweetheart Travis McCoy. The memory of him leaving her alone on their supposed wedding day to chase after his dream of being a rodeo star is hard to forget. Travis, on the other hand, is ready for a second chance and a life with Shay and her daughter. Will their surprise marriage be annulled? Will Shay accept Travis’s monetary help to save her farm? Will they grow closer or further apart as time goes by? This is definitely an emotional story of two hearts finding each other again.

This is not like other Christian fiction romances I have read. There is mention of prayers and going to church but it is not a preachy book. The characters are very human and you can feel the tension and connection between them. The author is excellent at describing their emotions and makes the reactions to events in the story believable. I really enjoyed this book and finished it in one sitting because I wanted to know what would happen next!

Mulitple Story Lines in this book by Kathy Herman

False Pretenses is book one in the Secrets of Roux River Bayou series written by Kathy Herman. Taking place in a small town in Louisiana the story is filled with suspense, friendships and a lesson in forgiveness all rolled in one.

It took me a bit to get into this book. The book contains a few story lines and they are all thrown at you at the beginning. I finally got an understanding of who the characters were and how they interacted about half way through the story. Once I understood what was happening and who was involved I enjoyed the story more.

Zoe and her husband Pierce own a restaurant but Zoe has a secret she is not ready to share. Once it becomes apparent that secret may be revealed, we see her character learn about consequences of our actions and true forgiveness. Along with this story is also the story of Vanessa and Ethan who have begun to restore a home in the hopes of making it a bed and breakfast. There is a mystery that goes along with this story and this part of the book was written well. Overall it is an interesting story about forgiveness with a little mystery thrown in.

Review for a book about praying

Face-to-Face with Sarah, Rachel, and Hannah by Janet Thompson is a great devotional book when you need a refresher in how to pray!

A lot of studies I have done in the past start with a brief paragraph about salvation and how you can become a Christian. This book does an incredible job of presenting salvation and laying out the steps better then any devotional I have read. There is not just a one page explanation but rather a well thought out section that takes you step by step. You can not put this book down saying you have not heard the way to Christ!

This book is about prayer and how it can change our lives. You will better understand the way God answers prayer and how to become a better person while waiting for that answer. Do you make your prayer request conditional or are do you trust God with all your needs? Learning how to trust and not question is a theme throughout each chapter.

I found that the number of passages to look up in your Bible really made this book great! You will learn so much about the woman in this study by reading passages and answering the questions the author has written for you. Start this study prepared to open your Bible and learn from the scripture!

There are lots of help for leaders who want to use this book in a Bible study group. I would highly recommend it for ladies wanting to learn about prayer and grow in their spiritual journey.

I gave this book 5/5 stars.

Two Reviews for books by Ronica Stromberg

Book one in the Kirsten Hart Series by Ronica Stromberg is about a twelve-year-olds move to a new town. The story follows Kirsten as she makes new friends and learns about Jesus.

The author is great at describing the emotions the main character is feeling. You learn about Kirsten by reading how she reacts to the different situations she encounters. Although it has a bit of a mystery in it, the book is really about Kirsten discovery of who she is and why she needs Jesus.

Not one of the best book I have read but it is well written and moves along quickly.  I gave this book 4/5 stars.
