Threat of Darkness is written by Valerie Hansen.

Samantha Rochard is a nurse who especially likes to help children. When she thinks a little boy might be in danger she steps in to help and finds herself in danger. The man who keeps showing up to help her, John Waltham, is a man she is not sure she wants around. After a break up a few years ago they still have some issues they need to work out. Will dealing with the current situation help or hinder them of a future together?

The characters in this book were interesting but did not seem to follow logic sometimes. What I mean by that is who they were portrayed to be sometimes did not match up with their actions. That said I did enjoy the conversations and suspense. I liked the story line too as not many romance novels broach the subjects portrayed here.

I gave this book 5/5 stars. I would read it again and would also recommend it to a friend.

Review of The Next Target

The Next Target is written by Nikki Arana.

This was a very fast paced and intriguing book. There is action and suspense along side the discussions of the Muslim religion. The author definitely did research on the subject and it shows in the detailed writing.

Austia does not know whom she can trust! She is caught with knowledge others seek and they will stop at nothing to reach her. There is so much information in this book about the Muslim culture and the author weaves it in flawlessly in this fictional suspense novel.

I enjoyed the suspense and action. I learned from the authors descriptions and story line quite a bit about the differences of the Muslim community verses the Christian community. I gave the book 4/5 stars for one main reason. When I sit to read a fictional novel I really want to read an uplifting book. I found this book depressing at times and a bit too much of the comparisons of religions. If there could have been less of that and even more of the action and suspense I would have enjoyed it even more.

Book By Yvette Maher

My Hair and God’s Mercies…New Every Morning is written by Yvette Maher.

Not having a great background should not limit what you do for the Lord. Yvette Maher shares her personal story in this book. Her story will show you this principle in action.

The author recounts her life story in this thought-provoking book. She talks about her use of drugs and even alcohol but she also shows you how the Lord never abandoned her. I liked how open the author was. She does not shy away from saying what needs to be said. The book will really point you to the Lord and remind you how much He loves you. She does well at showing the Lord’s mercy on her life.

I gave this book 4/5 stars because of the nature of the book. I thought the writing was well done but found all the negative parts outweighed the positive for me. I wish the book had a more positive tone to it.

Review of Mariah's Quest

Mariah’s Quest is published by Barbour and written by Dianna Crawford & Sally Laity.

This review is a little different then my others. I did not especially enjoy the story so put off writing the review for awhile. The book description describes the plot very well. Mariah is auctioned off and her life changes. Colin is the man who pays for her and their relationship is the romance of the story.

The story itself just did not work. The personalities of the main characters made them hard to cheer for. I just really didn’t care what happened to them and actually didn’t like them. The idea of the story was fine it just did not come to pass.

I did find some positive things to mention though. I thought the descriptions were well written and the conversations flowed well. That said I only gave the book 3/5 stars. I gave the low ratings for a bad story and even worse characters.

Book by Margaret Brownley

Grieving God’s Way, The Path To Lasting Hope and Healing is written by Margaret Brownley.

This book is a must read for anyone who is experiencing a loss in their life or for those who love them and want to support them. It is encouraging and points you to the Lord. This book is set up as a 90-day journey. Each day is two pages and they are filled with helpful steps to take on your journey of healing.

There is so much to take away from the devotions. I thought the sections at the end of each day called Healing Ways were so practical and offered some great ideas. From ways to use music to help release your emotions, to letting each person grieve in their own time, each day offered sensible tips.

I loved this book and gave it 5/5 stars. It was practical, it was easy to read and a book I will keep on my shelf as well as purchase for friends and family who are grieving.

Hunter's Prize by Marcia Gruver

Hunters Prize is written by Marcia Gruver.

This book is number three in the Backwoods Bride series. Each story is unique and can be read on its own. This particular story is about Addie. Addie decides it is time to leave her home and chooses a job as a governess. She sure gets more then she bargained for!

Ceddy Whitfield has a secret and others want to find it out. This little boy plays an important part in the story and makes this book very interesting. I really liked how the boy played just as important a role as the two main adult characters.

I enjoyed the treasure hunt, the romance and especially the setting. You can tell the author does a lot of research when writing her books. The setting is written is such a way that you can not miss the historical significance. I thought the detail really helped make the story believable.

How the author slips in a Christian theme is brilliant. You can read some books and it feels like the characters relationship with the Lord is written in after just so it can be called a Christian fiction book. This book, however, makes the spiritual growth of the characters an intricate part of the story.

I gave this book 4/5 stars because although the story was historically accurate the plot was sluggish at parts.

Book by Ellen Vaughn

Come, Sit, Stay, Finding Rest For Your Soul is written by Ellen Vaughn

The premise of this book is that we all need to spend time alone with the Lord. The author uses Biblical and real life examples to show ways to strengthen our relationship.

The author reminds us that in this world where everything is right at our fingertips and we are all in a hurry we are commanded in the Bible to sit still. If we take the time to really study the Bible and spend time alone in prayer we will understand how the Lord is directing our lives.

Parts of this book were cumbersome and took me awhile to get through. I think the whole book could have been edited better. That said I still gave the book a 4/5 stars. The information given will help you if you are feeling like you need help in your personal walk with the Lord.
