Love Works, Seven Timeless Principles For Effective Leaders by Joel Manby

Love Works, Seven Timeless Principles For Effective Leaders by Joel Manby

So what makes a business successful? Is it the boss or the workers? Is it how they work together or how well they stay away from each other? This book shows how the author, Joel Manby, uses certain Biblical principles to run his corporation and keep it successful.

I found the ideas in this book interesting and found the authors’ approach to leadership a much-needed approach in today’s business atmosphere. The book itself is very easy to understand and follow. This is a great book for anyone in a leadership position to read. Just by the writing style you can see that the author has a kind heart and enjoys sharing with others ways to better their companies.

I gave this book 5/5 stars for numerous reasons. The main reason I gave this book a high rating was because it had such great ideas to improve the workplace. I think everyone can learn something from this book!

When I was offered this book to review I was not sure whether I wanted to read it or not. I choose to read mostly Christian books so was not sure I would enjoy the book. I am so glad I decided to give it a try. This was a very deep book! The story takes place after the death of the main character but don’t let that stop you from reading the rest of the book!

I tried to approach my review of this book from a Christian viewpoint, what Biblical principal or lesson can we learn from reading this story. There are actually plenty of lessons to take away from it. Learning from past mistakes and enjoying the time you have on earth were two that really stood out to me.

I enjoyed this book but still only gave it 4/5 stars. My main reason for doing this is because there were parts of the book that seemed to just go on and on and should really have been edited better. That said the characters were well written and had depth to them. The interaction of the characters and some of the incidents that occur throughout the book kept me entertained! If you are looking for a book about a family and how they interact with each other you will enjoy this book!

God, Health and Happiness is written by Dr. Scott Morris.

God, Health and Happiness is written by Dr. Scott Morris.

I was not sure what to expect when I picked up this book to read. I thought it might be a political take on the health care in our country right now. I was pleasantly surprised as I began reading. This author shows how to use principles in the Bible and apply them to taking care of the physical needs of those around us.

Reading about all the Doctor has done to change how people approach health care is very inspiring. As you read you may not agree with all he suggest but you have to give him credit for thinking outside the box. This book is all about his ideas, how he has implemented them and the changes he saw by making the changes.

I gave this book 4/5 stars because I did enjoy all the examples but thought getting more opinions from other doctors might have made the book more credible. I did like the tone of the book however, and how all the information kept directing you too look to the Lord and his principles for the solutions.

Five Miles South of Peculiar is written by Angela Hunt

The sisters unite and everything changes! This was an interesting book and I really enjoyed the story. The book itself is long but the development of the characters keeps you reading.

Carlene, Magnolia and Darlene are the three main characters the book follows. The interaction of these sisters makes for a great story. Each sister has their own issues they are currently dealing with. How they handle their unique situations and how they interact with each other makes the story charming. The minor characters are also interesting but some of them could have been left out and it would not have hurt the story.

I only gave this book 4/5 stars because I found parts of the story really dragged along. I did like the relationships of the sisters and how they develop and change over the course of the book. If some of the less important sections of the story had been cut I would have enjoyed the story even more.

The Fiddler is written by Beverly Lewis

The Fiddler is written by Beverly Lewis and published by Bethany House Publishing.

Amelia Devries takes a wrong turn that changes her life forever! This chance meeting also changes Michael Hostetler’s life. The events that happen and the relationships that form because of this one mistake are what make this story entertaining.

I have not read many books by Beverly Lewis so when I saw this book was available for review I jumped at the chance to try it. The story itself is interesting and held my attention. The main characters of Amelia and Michael are very well written and have excellent conversations. I liked how the discussions about important subjects were written, you feel like you are really getting to know the characters. The background characters also helped add to the drama of the story and kept me reading.

I gave this book 5/5 stars because the story itself was interesting, the characters were well developed and I really enjoyed the ending!

Books of the Bible is written by Daniel John Fox

Books of the Bible is written by Daniel John Fox, Sr. and published by Dorrance Publishing.

This is a very short and concise book. It takes each of the 66 books of the Bible and offers you a brief explanation of what the book is about. It states a theme for the book and then follows it with a verse or two from the particular book to reiterate the theme.

This book was super easy to understand. It was only 60 pages long and those pages are small. The letters were a good size and made the pages easy to read. The simple to follow format was my favorite part. The author starts with Genesis and goes through each book of the Bible in the same order they are found in the Bible.

I gave this book 4/5 stars for a couple reasons. The main reason though, was the simplicity of the Bible book explanation. The explanations were super simple and are very well suited for elementary age children or a very new Christian. It would be good to give as a gift for someone that has never read the Bible or may have no understanding of what is in the Bible. A person who is familiar with the Bible may find this book not worth buying. That said I will be keeping this book on my shelf so I can read it again when I need a brief reminder of the content of a certain book of the Bible.

An Unexpected Romance is written by Donna Fitts.

An Unexpected Romance is written by Donna Fitts.

This book follows the story of Mark and Elizabeth. Mark heads home to sell his Mom’s house expecting to be back to his normal job within a couple weeks. Elizabeth unexpectedly runs into Mark who happens to be an old friend. Her life is not working out the way she had hoped and this meeting only makes her life even more confusing. Will they take a chance with each other or will a relationship cost them too much!

This was such an easy book to read. The conversations flowed well. The story moved along and kept you wanting to read about the next interaction of the characters. The characters themselves were complex and really made this book an enjoyable read.

I gave this book 5/5 stars because not only did I enjoy the story line but I also thought the characters were very well written. Overall I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to a friend.

60 Christian Traits by Tracy Carol Taylor is published by Tate Publishing Company.

This book is very simple to understand. The author takes sixty different traits that apply to the Christian life and expounds on them. The author takes verses from the Bible that apply to the characteristic being discusses and writes those out for you right there in the chapter. Those verses are then followed by a brief explanation written from the authors’ viewpoint about the trait.

Some of the traits written about are meekness, Godliness and being peaceful. I liked how the sixty traits are compiled together in this one book. I liked how the verses were there to reiterate what the author was trying to present as a trait every Christian should strive to have.

I gave this book 4/5 stars. There was nothing extra special about the book. You could really just look up these traits in your Bible on your own. I did however like the short but informative comments the author put at the end of each of the chapters that pertained to the trait that was just presented.

Unstuck. Your Life, God’s Design, Real Change is written by Arni Cole and Michael Ross and published by Bethany House.

The concept of this book intrigued me and I sat down to read it the moment I received it. How is your relationship with the Lord? Do you feel like you are stuck where you are at and have not seen any growth in awhile? This book is a great work that will guide you to a real relationship with the Lord.

I enjoyed the Biblical examples found throughout this book. The authors really show you how to make your relationship with the Lord better. They suggest changes and then give Biblical principles to use to help apply them. I found the book to be easy to understand and felt it flowed well.

I gave this book 5/5 stars because of all the helpful information given. Even if you are feeling good about your relationship with the Lord there will be parts of this book that you will find helpful. This is definitely a book to have on your bookshelf.
