ROCB: Foxy

Foxy
Review of Childrens Book Foxy
The illustrations, especially of the little girl, are very cute and well done.  In the story Emily is getting nervous about her first day of school.  Her friend Foxy tries to help her gather all the things she will need for school.  When she says she will need a pencil he brings her a penguin the first time and then a pencil.  By being silly with Emily, Foxy is able to help her relax so by the time school comes she ready and happy.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I think any child will enjoy reading how another child is nervous about a new event happening and will enjoy the silly things Foxy does to make her feel better.

ROCB: Lucky and Squash

Lucky and Squash
Review of Childrens Book Lucky and Squash

This is a cute story about two dogs that decide they want their owners to get married so they can be brothers.  I gave this book 4/5 stars.  I thought the story idea was cute.  I enjoyed the fun things the dogs did while running away.  I did think it put too positive a light on the idea of running away.  I know it is just a story but the idea of the book you walk away with is if you run away you may eventually get what you want.  It is still worth a read though!

ROCB: Creepy Carrots

Creepy Carrots!
Review of Childrens Book Creepy Carrots

This is such a fun story.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  The story follows a rabbit that enjoys eating carrots and how the carrots decide to help him stop.  I liked how the carrots were drawn with faces.  I also enjoyed the use of the black, white and orange colors throughout the book.  I thought it was very inventive to have the carrots show up everywhere the little rabbit went.  I especially enjoyed that by the time someone else went to where little rabbit saw these rouge carrots, they had hidden away.  It is a cute story and a must read for any child who does not scare easily!

Review of No Safe Harbor

No Safe Harbor by Elizabeth Ludwig
No Safe Harbor is written by Elizabeth Ludwig.

I really enjoyed this book.  I liked the main character Cara.  I thought she was well written and I liked how her character reacted to the different difficulties she encountered.  I thought the story itself was great!  I liked the suspense and how fast the story moved from one scene to the next.  I also liked the historical aspect of the story.  I thought the historical part of the book is what made this story so enjoyable.  The author must have done a lot of research and it definitely showed.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I have nothing negative to say and I think anyone who likes historical, Christian romances with a little bit of mystery, will love this book!

Review of Buyer Beware

Buyer Beware by Janet Parshall
Buyer Beware is written by Janet Parshall.

The book is filled with a wide range of topics that relate to the world we live in today.  The author, who is a well known radio talk host, uses biblical principles to write about how Christians should react and relate to what is going on in the world around us.  I gave this book 4/5 stars for a couple reasons.  My first reason is it has lots and lots of words!  I know that is what makes a book but sometimes the paragraphs would just go on and on!  Another reason is how complicated some of the paragraphs felt as I read through them.  I had to reread some of them just to get to the point of what was being written.  On the positive side I did walk away from the book with a better understanding of how important it is to read your Bible every day.

Review of Today's Shadow's

Today's Shadows by Becky Melby
Today’s Shadows is written by Becky Melby.

I enjoyed the story and thought the suspense was well written.  I liked the conversations between the characters as they flowed well from one thought to the next.  My favorite part of the book was how the female characters had life to them!  They were not just these sweet women that sit quietly while the hero rescues them but had great thoughts on their own.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I liked the setting, time period and mystery.  I think anyone who enjoys a clean romance with a touch of suspense and intrigue will enjoy this story.

ROCB: Where Do Recyclable Materials Go

Where Do Recyclable Materials Go?: Read Think Recycle
Review of Children's Book Where Do Recyclable Materials Go
I gave this book 5/5 stars.  The illustrations were excellent.  The story follows a family as they search for their dog.  The dog loves to follow the recycle truck so they start off following the truck also.  I liked how the story flowed from one location to the next. I think all children will enjoy the story and not even realize they are learning about how to recycle.  A great book and perfect for any child who has questions about recycling.

Review of Don't Stop Believing

Don't Stop Believin': Pop Culture and Religion from "Ben-Hur" to Zombies
Don’t Stop Believing is written by various authors.

I gave this book 4/5 stars.  This book is a bunch of chapters and each chapter is about something in our culture.  The chapters are divided by what ten year period they took place in.  Some of the chapter titles are Clint Eastwood, The Simpsons, SimCity and Dr. Phil.  I did not really learn anything from this book and that is why I gave it a lower rating.  I thought some of the commentaries on certain subjects were well written and some were actually funny however the majority of them were just plain boring!  I say all that but also think that everyone will at least enjoy some of these commentaries so don’t not get this book just because I did not like it!

Review of You Have It In You

You Have It In You! by Sheryl Brady

You Have It In You is written by Sheryl Brady.

The subtitle to this book is Empowered To Do The Impossible.  After reading this uplifting book you will agree that the title is an exact description of what the author writes about.  I have to admit that I had not heard of the author of this book until reading the book description.  It looked like a book that would encourage the reader and it definitely is.

I gave this book 4/5 stars.  I think the biggest principle I learned was to be ready when the Lord lead s you to do something.  You can be ready by realizing that He will give you the strength to accomplish whatever the task is He has called you to do.  Although there were great personal stories and practical principles, this book just did not have any big wow for me.  I thought it was too wordy sometimes but it still is a good book to read when you need some encouragement for a task that seems overwhelming.

Review of The Ulimate Conversation

The Ultimate Conversation by charles f stanley

The Ultimate Conversation is written by Charles Stanley.

I loved this book and how easy to understand Dr. Stanley made the subject of prayer.  His writing style is what makes this book a great study book on talking with the Lord.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I liked how the book gave practical steps to growing in your relationship with the Lord through prayer.  I really liked how much he talked about how the Lord wants to talk with us.  You will feel so loved and accepted by the Lord after reading this book.  Your desire to pray will also grow immensely as you learn how easy it is to talk to the Lord and how much He wants you to talk with Him.  I would recommend this book to anyone who desires a better prayer life or who needs to be reminded how important prayer is!
