Review of Whatever The Cost

This book is written from the viewpoint of the two Benham brothers. The part of their life they are writing about was a short-lived reality television show for one of the cable networks. This book shows how they were feeling at the time and the many lessons they learned while enduring. I found the writing to be more of a friend telling another friend about a difficult time they went through and how the Lord helped them. It flowed well from chapter to chapter and the writing style was easy to understand. It is not two men wining about something or wanting to get their side of the story out. It is about two men wanting to show how the Lord has led in their lives and how we can learn from their hardships. There are many principles that can be taken away from reading this book. In fact there were so many I have two pages full of comments I copied down! I would recommend this book for any Christian going through a difficult work situation right now. I would also recommend it for any Christian needing some encouragement while feeling they are the only ones standing up for something they believe in. This is a 5 out of 5 star book!!!!

You Can Adopt Without Debt Book Review

If you are looking into adopting or know someone who is thinking about it, this would be a great book for you. I found the ideas to be simply explained and very easy to understand. I did find about 10 percent of it tedious and not helpful but overall a lot of helpful information. I did enjoy the authors writing style but do not think I would read this book again. That said, I would recommend this for any one having difficulty with the financial issues that go along with adopting.

Women Heroes of the American Revolution

I can’t say anything negative about this book! It has stories of women that are not spoken of often. Some you may have heard of and some maybe not. I enjoyed each one! They are well written and easy to understand. I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys history and intriguing women. I think those who especially like quick stories that are easy to read but also entertaining will love this book and not put it down till they are finished. I would highly recommend this for any young girl to read as it show just how much a woman can do even when faced with day to day obstacles. A definite 5 out of 5 star book from me!

Beyond Orange County By Lydia McLaughlin

Let me start by saying I have seen the show this author was a part of. I do not think you have to have watched the show to enjoy this book. In fact I would recommend you read it whether you know who the author is or not. From the first page you will feel like you are sitting at the kitchen table talking to a close friend. I liked how you are taken behind closed doors and made to feel right at home. The author does an excellent job of discussing her issues and feelings without making judgement on others. I like how she admits to faults and does not come across as thinking more highly of herself because she has been on a television show. I would recommend this book to any Christian woman who enjoys reading about how others Christians work hard to make it in this world while keeping their testimony. I would also recommend the book to anyone interested in the lifestyle of a television personality.

The Confession by Robert Whitlow

It is always better to tell the truth. This book shows how a lie about an accident affected the main characters’ life for years. The story itself is slow to get into but the depth of the characters helps make it interesting. I thought the conversations and details were excellently written. I did however, have to put the book down a few times and come back to it to make it through. It was just a bit slow for my taste but still a good story. I would recommend the book to anyone looking for an in-depth look at how guilt from the past can make your life better or worse. I would also recommend the book to any fans of this author as this book was better then his last!

10 Ways to Say I Love You By Josh McDowell

I think that this book will help any couple no matter how long they have been married. It really is good for any couple, not just married ones but dating ones as well. I found lots of practical and easy to understand advice. One area the author touches on is not being understood. He writes about most issues in marriage have to do with misunderstandings. These could be about how to spend money to how someone makes a comment with a certain tone in their voice. Being able to communicate that something is bothering you will help with any miscommunication that arises. I learned that truly listening to the other person and trying to understand what they are saying and feeling can help your marriage thrive not just survive. I would recommend this for any couple to read together or for one spouse to read to better understand the other.

Twisted Innocence By Terri Blackstock

This book did not have me on the edge of my seat from the first page but the suspense built over a few chapters. I have always enjoyed books by Terri Blackstock and this one did not disappoint! There is the usual suspense that helps keep this book moving but there is also great family interaction. The way the family of the main character, Holly, pull together to help her and her children is very inspiring. I liked the conversations as they felt like ones real families would have not just quick written conversations to fill the pages. I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys suspense stories, family stories, Christian fiction and of course Terri Blackstock fans!

Dandelion Fields By Kathryn Springer

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The author did an exceptional job at describing. The descriptive words really flowed well and did not seem too wordy. I thought the characters were enjoyable. Sometimes you find yourself not liking the main characters but you will not have that problem with this book. I liked the story itself as well. It is not a common one but really takes on a life of its own. I highly recommend the book to anyone who enjoys a love story with real life issues portrayed.

Review of The Family of Jesus

This is a different viewpoint on the story of Jesus. The well-known author takes people from Jesus life and has you look at His life through their eyes. I gave this book 4/5 stars. It wasn’t the best book I have read but it did have some interesting viewpoints. I liked how the stories flowed; there were no boring parts! I liked that most of what was written you could find in the Bible. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a different viewpoint on the life of Jesus.

Review of The Brickmaker's Bride

This book is very family oriented. I liked how the relationships and day to day struggles were portrayed. I gave this book 5/5 stars. This story will grab you right away and take you into the lives of the intriguing characters. The female character is written as being strong yet having venerability, which makes her believable! The male characters are both interesting and but only one is likable. You will pull for one but realize that you wouldn’t like him so much if the other wasn’t written as an unlikable character. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes family dramas and romances that progress slowly.

I liked how this book started with the man’s point of view. A lot of times you start right out with the main female character in some kind of distress. This book has the story start with the main male character driving to a meeting he needs to get to right away. I liked how the story progressed and how the two characters came to know and like each other despite their initial distrust of one another. I thought the story moved quickly and was interesting. I gave this book 5/5 stars. I would recommend it to those who like a quick modern romance with a Christian theme.

This is the perfect book for your tween or teen girl.  I thought the advice was excellent and just what a girl becoming a woman needs to read.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  The book is written in a friendly manner and offers practical information that is easy to understand.  I am a huge fan of this author and was very excited to read this new book for the young woman.  You cannot go wrong buying this book for any young Christian girl you know.  I highly recommend this book!

This is an excellent devotional book.  It is encouraging and points you to the Lord with each entry.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I liked that there were examples from scripture and real life examples to help highlight the verse for the day.  The devotionals are short but are full of practical advice for your day.  I would recommend this to any woman who is looking for a new devotional book.

Review of The Invention of Sarah Cummings

The setting is the best part of this historical book.  The time period is described beautifully.  The clothes of the time are easy to picture with the authors flowing descriptions.  I gave this book 4/5 stars.  Where the descriptions were great the main female character was just not written as a very likable person.  I did not enjoy her and her interactions with those around her.  I did get how the author was trying to show how she changes over the pages but it was hard to like her.  I would recommend this book to someone who is interested in the time period and setting more than the characters.

Review of Sweet Olive

I just didn’t really enjoy this book and gave it a 4/5 stars.  The story itself was slow to start and I actually got confused at the beginning.  The characters were written to be these deep thinkers but I found them to be boring and was not entertained.  I did enjoy the town setting and thought the author was excellent at describing things and locations.  I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick Christian fiction book that will entertain you for an evening.

Review of Fired Up

 

This book has suspense and romance!  I gave this book 4/5 stars.  I liked the suspense parts and felt they were well written and did not drag on and on.  The main female character was interesting but did not have a personality that drew me to cheer for her!  The male lead was one of the best I have read lately.  He was smart, logical and easy to like.  I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys suspenseful stories that include an entertaining male lead.

Review of A Boy's Guide To Making Realy Good Choices

This is an excellent resource for a young boy.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I think it would be great to use as a devotional with a 6-10 year old.  Having a parent read it with him would be even better.  There is simple advice following some scenarios that will have the young boy thinking about his options.  I liked that it was easy to read and also was entertaining enough to keep his interest.  I would recommend this book to any parent of a young Christian boy who needs some simple guidance in his life.

Review of Beloved By Robin Lee Hatcher

This book is part of a series by famed author Robin Lee Hatcher.  I would recommend that you read the others in the series before reading this one.  You don’t have to but I think it will help you better understand the characters.  The story itself is entertaining but not one of my favorites by this author.  I thought the characters were not very well developed.  They just did not draw you to them and that made it hard to want to keep reading about them.  I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the author.
