This book is well written and a fun read

Sixty Acres and a Bride is written by Regina Jennings and published by Bethany House.

Rose Garner has just arrived in Texas from Mexico. She has followed her deceased husbands’ mother back to claim their land. After finding out there is tax money due on the land, the women have to figure out a way to pay. The other character that plays an important part in this story is Weston Garner. He has issues of his own to deal with and now must handle the emotions he is feeling for Rose. This story will remind you of the story of Ruth and Boaz found in the Bible.

Rose’s interaction with the town people and family are at the core of this book. Their reactions to her and the situations she encounters help make this book interesting. I especially liked the relationship between Rose and Weston. How the author writes the growth of their relationship is believable and moves along with the story.

The book is well written and is a fun read. I enjoyed the characters and setting. I liked how all the different story lines came together at the end and that the book concluded on a high note. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian western love stories.

I would like to thank the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.

I gave this book 5/5 stars.

The author writes this book in a very loving style

My Own Worst Enemy, How To Stop Holding Yourself Back is written by Janet Davis and published by Bethany House.

This book explores the idea that women are their own worst enemy when trying to discover and accept themselves for who they really are. The author examines ways women sabotage their own progress in gaining a positive view of who they were created to be.

There were many positives about this book. I thought the numerous examples from the Bible used were a great way to solidify the principles the author was trying to teach. I liked that the scriptures were right there in the book with the section she was writing about so you did not have to have a Bible handy for each reference mentioned. I also liked the loving manner of the author’s writing style. I felt the author’s book was written from a non-judgmental viewpoint.

On the negative side I felt like the book really sat on certain points too long. You can make your point with one or two examples and then move onto the next one. With that said, I still enjoyed the book and feel like it is an excellent book for any woman struggling with low self-esteem. There are questions at the end of each chapter that can really help you make this book and its principles a very personal journey. If you take the time to do each question you can not help but grow more into the person God created you to be.

I would like to thank the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.

I gave this book 4/5 stars.

You will not feel depressed after reading this book!

What’s Next? Navigating Transitions To Make The Rest Of Your Life Count is written by H. Norman Wright and published by Bethany House.

This is an encouraging and uplifting book about the last half of your life here on earth. The author takes subjects and talks about them in the light of being older. From being parents and grandparents to marriage and becoming a widow or widower, he touches on subjects that will come into most of our lives at some point.

The author writes in a very open and humble style. I enjoyed all the chapters but a few of them really stood out. I liked his chapters on marriage. He talks about the different marriage relationships and the different stages of marriage. The information is very helpful and those chapters alone are worth buying the book for. His chapters on being great grandparents were very helpful also. Showing the different ways to be there for your family were enlightening.

I enjoyed the lists, questions and quotes placed throughout the book. The end does have discussion questions if you decide to use the book in a group setting. I think anyone over the age of 30 can take away something after reading this. You will learn things to help you today and also as you grow older. You will not feel depressed after reading this book! You will feel encouraged to live your life at your best everyday starting today!

There are numerous story lines in this one!

Tomorrow’s Sun is written by Becky Melby and published by Barbour Publishing.

There were so many story lines going on at once in this book that it became a bit confusing at times. The main character, Emily Foster, decides to make over houses in hopes that she can make money quickly. She starts her first project and runs into some interesting dilemmas. Her contractor is one of them! Jake Braden has much on his mind when he takes on the job of helping Emily renovate an older house. He is in the process of gaining custody of his niece and nephew. The attraction between the two main characters is evident and watching them develop their relationship is a good part of this story.

There are numerous other story lines going on around the relationship of Emily and Jake. Can they work through their own issues and uncover all the history the house has to offer? The history that is woven into the story was done so with abrupt changes in the story line. Meaning you are reading a section of the story now and then the story changes to the history parts and leaves you in the middle of the main story. I found the jumping from one time period to the other a bit much. However, it was an interesting story idea and the author’s writing style is easy to read. I can not say I would read this book again but it did keep my attention long enough to finish the story!

This book is the sequel to Southern Fried Sushi.

Like Sweet Potato Pie is written by Jennifer Rogers Spinola and is published by Barbour Publishing.

This book is the sequel to Southern Fried Sushi, which is also written by Jennifer Rogers Spinola. This book is about the struggles of the main character Shiloh. She is dealing with financial, family and relationship issues all at once. Will she learn to rely on the Lord for her security and learn to trust Him with her life?

The struggles Shiloh deals with are all ones Christians can relate to. The author does a great job of dealing with the characters issues. She writes so that you see how the Lord is your helper no matter what circumstances you are in right now. I liked how the main characters are flawed yet likeable. I also enjoyed the relationships between the characters. I have not read the first book and felt like I was behind a bit when starting the story. Like I was coming in towards the middle of a book. I would recommend you read the first book before reading this one! Except for that issue, I enjoyed the story!

A Western Amish story?

The Heart’s Frontier is written by Lori Copeland and Virginia Smith and is published by Harvest House Publishers.

This story takes place in Kansas in the late 1800’s. Emma Switzer’s family is robbed of everything they are traveling with. They are on their way to visit family and find themselves stranded! They walk to the nearest settlement praying that they can find someone to help them.

Luke Carson is heading out on his first cattle drive. He can not believe he is the answer to the prayers of this intriguing Amish family. What is he to do about this strong connection he feels with Emma? Can they be together or are they just too different?

From robberies to cattle drives the story moves quickly. I enjoyed the book and thought the writing was excellent. The characters were interesting and the setting was definitely part of the story. I liked how the relationships developed and how the characters grew. You could see them changing as you read their story. I liked everything about this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes Amish fiction and even those who enjoy a fun Western. Another excellent Christian fiction story!
