Review of A Girl's Guide To Making Really Good Choices

A Girl's Guide to Making Really Good Choices by Elizabeth George
Author Elizabeth George has a special talent for breaking down into small bites ways to live a better Christian life.  In this particular book she gives some very easy to follow advice for girls in the early stages of being a teenager.  This is a perfect book for a Mom to read along with her daughter or for a Sunday School class to go through together.  The author addresses different issues that are important and also offers simple advice that is age appropriate.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I think this book is a must read!  I would recommend this book to anyone with a young daughter and especially as a gift to a young girl who is looking for help in her walk with the Lord.

Review of A Brighter Witness

A Brighter Witness: Conversations on the Christian and the Arts

This book is short and very easy to read.  It is a collection of essays written by a former conductor for a college symphony.  The majority of essays are short yet informative.  Some of the essays are interesting and some were a bit tedious.  Overall the writing style was easy to read and made this short book a breeze to finish.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I liked the authors’ viewpoint on issues as he recounted personal experiences.  I would recommend this book to anyone interested in music and how it can be an influence in you Christian walk with the Lord.

Review of Love In Bloom

Love In Bloom -
        By: Arlene James

I really liked how the author wrote the relationship between the two main characters, Lily and Tate.  It takes time for them to come together and that makes this story entertaining.  It also helps you get to know and like them so that by the end you are cheering for them to get together.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I liked the plot, setting and characters!  Another great Love Inspired book and I can’t wait to read more in this particular series, The Heart of Main Street!

Review of His Word In My Heart

His Word in My Heart by Janet Pope

I would love to meet this author in person.  She comes across as such a spiritual and humble person!  If that is what memorizing scripture does to a person then we should all get busy!  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  I thought the advice was practical and the personal examples informative.  You will come away with a better understanding of why we should memorize scripture and a simple way to start.  I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in scripture and how it can benefit them as a Christian.

Review of Miner's Lady

The Miner's Lady by Tracie Peterson

This is book three in this series by Tracie Peterson.  The other titles included are The Icecutter’s Daughter and The Quarryman’s Bride.  You do not have to read the others in the series to enjoy this one!  I really did like this book and gave it 5/5 stars.  The basic story is typical, two families fighting and somehow their children fall in love.  Even though you have read that storyline before this particular story has enough twists and turns that you will definitely enjoy it!  I liked how the main woman character starts by just wanting to help her sister and ends up getting into a situation herself!  Of the three in this series this one was my favorite!

Review of The Quarryman's Bride

The Quarryman's Bride by Tracie Peterson

This is book two in this series by Tracie Peterson.  The first book is The Icecutter’s Daughter and the third is The Miner’s Lady.  This is not one of my favorite by this author.  The characters are interesting but not intriguing.  I found the story line a bit unbelievable at times.  Who is engaged and then leaves with their family anyway!  I just don’t see that from a young person.  Once you get past the basic story though and follow the different events the story does get better.  I gave this book 4/5 stars.  I do think you will enjoy the book I just don’t see reading the book a second time!

Review of The Icecutter's Daughter

The Icecutter's Daughter by Tracie Peterson

This is another enjoyable book by Tracie Peterson!  This book will grab your attention from the beginning.  The characters are likable and you will cheer for most of them.  The two main characters of Merrill and Rurik are written well especially when they are conversing with each other.  I thought they were well developed and I could actually see them be together.  I gave this book 5/5 stars.  The book held my attention and the story was entertaining.  If you enjoy Christian historical fiction books you will enjoy this one!  This particular book is book one in the series Land of Shining Water.  The other two books are Quarryman’s Bride and Miner’s Lady.

Review of Jesus Was A Country Boy

Jesus Was a Country Boy by Clay Walker

The author is not ashamed to tell you what he thinks about life and religion which he does by using stories from his life.  I gave this book 4/5 stars.  Although I do not think the author meant to come across a certain way, as I read the book I really felt like he was on a soap box talking down about everyone else.  Some of the stories were funny and some were heartwarming but overall it was just another book by a famous person trying to seem like a “normal’ person.  I felt like this book could have been a letter to his fans about his thoughts on things.  I do think anyone who is interested in the author as a person not just an entertainer will enjoy this book.  I thought the message of who the author thought the Lord was got lost in his sarcasm.  Overall I enjoyed the book but would not read it again!
