Great information on prayer

Pray For Me, The Power in Praying For Others is written by Kenneth H. Carter Jr.

We have all told someone we would pray for them, but do we really take the time to put their need before the Lord during our prayer time? Do you take the time to feel for the person and put yourself in their shoes? Taking time is a real message I took away from reading this book.

We all seem to be in a hurry to get onto the next issue or project in our life. I like how the other put sections in the book called invitations to reflect. These sections gave you time to think about the different issues the author was discussing and find ways to apply them to your own prayers.

I liked how he used the example of a bucket. He showed how a persons bucket is filled with problems and then you come beside him with your empty one and take some of his load. That really is what praying for another person is all about. Easing their burden. Overall it was a beneficial book to read and had many tips for making your prayer life more productive. I gave this book 4/5 stars because although I learned from the book it did contain parts that seemed redundant.

The author has good insight

Doing Life God’s Way is written by David Beckwith and published by Dorrance Publishing.

I have to say I have never really read a book laid out like this one was. It starts with a story of what one might find during a typical day. Like the kids talking around the dinner table or finding flooding in your basement, each story centers on an incident that you may encounter in your lifetime. Following the story, the author lists some verses that apply to the principle he is trying to get across with his story. After you read through the verses he ends with a short devotional that include some questions to further your thinking on the principle.

The author’s insight on the subjects he touched on will give you something to think about. I enjoyed the short stories and verses that followed. I liked most of his expounding on the principle but found some of them to be abrupt and chopping in the style they were written. I gave this book 3/5 stars because although there was helpful information there was too much time spent on the stories and not enough time on the principle being taught.

Easy to understand book

The Commands of Christ: What It Means To Follow Jesus, was written by Tom Blackaby.

This is an informative book on the different commands found in the Bible. These commands are for areas in our lives that the Lord wants us to grow spiritually. I really liked how the author explained these commands as directives from the Lord to help guide, direct or train us. They are not meant to punish us. The Lord knows we are imperfect and only gives these commands to help guide us to the life He wants us to have in Him.

There are many verses throughout this book. I like that he included most of those in the text so you did not have to look them up. It made reading the book an easy experience. The best part of the book was after the author explained the particular command he was clarifying. He included a section called Application. This section is where the author said here is what the verses said and here is how to apply this particular verse to your every day life.

I liked how simple and easy to understand this book was. I think this would be a perfect book for a new Christian to read, especially if that person is struggling with trying to do everything just right. I found the authors words to be encouraging and very informative. I gave this book 5/5 stars because it is a great book for every Christian to read.

A great thriller!

Convicted is written by Tim Hughes.

If I could give this book a higher then 5/5 star rating I would! Beware that once you start reading you will not want to put this book down! There is adventure from page one till the end. It is well written with easy flowing dialogue.

The story follows Declan Elliot as he finds himself in danger after an unfortunate incident. Another main character, Valerie Dalton, plays an important part in this exciting adventure. The relationship between these two characters is believable and helps make the story. From one page to the next you will follow the main characters as they strive to make sense of what is happening around them.

Although the setting of the story is in the future, you could really see this story taking place in any time period. I liked how the author used the setting to help his story move quickly. I could find nothing negative to say about this book. It is action packed from the first page till the last and ends exactly as it should. I especially liked how the author blended this adventure with Biblical themes. It is a great book and I look forward to reading every book this author writes!

A very personal story

Stolen But Not Lost is written by Janet Tombow.

You will find this book to be a very personal story of the authors’ search for significance. There is so much in this book that it is hard to narrow the message down. There is a lot to take in and process. I do think that everyone can identify with some part of her story. I like that she is very open about the journey she went on to find herself. I thought her very open writing made the book interesting. If you read this book you will definitely feel compassion as you read the different circumstances the author encounters. I only gave this book 4/5 stars because I did not enjoy all of it and felt it went on a little much at times.

A short book!

A Spirituality of Living is written by Henri J.M. Nouwen

This book is part of the Henri Nouwen Spirituality Series. It is a short book and well worth your time. Do you know what it means to live a spiritual life? Are you often distracted while trying to spend time alone in Bible study? The principles in this book will help you grow in your spiritual relationship with Christ. The author puts forth three areas that we can use to further our growth. I thought the book was an easy read and very easy to understand. If you are looking for a short book with easy to apply principles this is it! I gave this book 4/5 stars because I found some of the writing to be a little boring, but that is just my opinion so please do not skip the book just because I found parts of it monotonous.

A fun book to read!

S.A.V.E. Squad Book 1: Dog Daze is written by Lauraine Snelling and Kathleen Wright.

What a fun book to read. The story is interesting as well as entertaining. There is much to learn from this book, things like teamwork, friendship and even celebrating your differences. The story revolves around a group of girls, with Aneta Jasper as the main character.

Even though I was an adult reading a book written for the late elementary age group, I still really enjoyed this story. I liked how the characters related to each other. I liked the project they work on together as it made the story more interesting. I would definitely let my child read this book! I gave the book a 5/5 stars because there is really nothing negative I could say about this book!

A must read if you love books

Lit! A Christian’s Guide to Reading Books is written by Tony Reinke.

For a lover of books, this book was filled with excellent information. Ever wonder if you should be reading a certain kind of book? What if you are reading books but not understanding the message? Have you been taught to never mark up a book? You will learn the answers to those questions and more in the information filled chapters in this easy to read book.

The tone the author sets in this book is loving in nature and not judgmental at all. His helpful guidelines to keep you reading every day are excellent. Not sure what to read? The author offers many different categories to try reading and ways to make that reading meaningful. I thought I knew all about reading but I learned quite a bit from the book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading. I gave this book 4/5 stars because some of the information went pretty far in-depth and may be a little boring for some readers.

A realistic book for teens

The Embittered Ruby is written by Nicole O’Dell.

I do not read a lot of young adult books but I was glad I had the opportunity to read this one. The story centers on a sixteen year old girl named Carmen. She is going through family drama and this book takes you along on her journey.

I found the story to be realistic. I thought the descriptions of the main characters’ emotions were well written. You follow the character as she justifies doing things that she knows are wrong. You really get to know her and understand why she does what she does. I did feel like it took you on this long journey that ended abruptly though. The ending is not as good as the rest of the book. That said, I still enjoyed the story and gave this book 4/5 stars.
